We need your help documenting and mapping the public art of Oakland. If you can assist with any of the following tasks, please let us know.

Collection
We appreciate any additions to the collection from people who, like ourselves, were just walking down the street and noticed a seemingly random work of art. If you do not have a camera available, you can simply note the location and describe the work in an email to us.

Artist accounts
If you are an artist who has created works of public art on the streets of Oakland, we would like to hear from you. Whether commissioned by a city agency, inspired by the environment, or compelled in reaction to some other event, your installation has had an effect on other people. Anything that you are willing to share with us about your process or inspiration would be most welcome.

12th Annual International Sculpture Conference History
In 1982, Oakland hosted the 12th Annual International Sculpture Conference History. We have found limited documentation on this event (newspaper articles and the remaining sculptures) and would like more information about the roles of the city, museum, and artists who participated. This work requires time to research and/or contact individuals for personal anecdotes and materials.

GPS Mapping
The mapping component of our project needs coordinates for individual works of art, and the geographic extents of neighborhoods and districts in Oakland. This work requires a GPS, GIS data for the area, and/or the time to walk and collect data.

Personal records
Do you have photos of art in Oakland that no longer exists? We would love permission to display your photos as part of our collection. If you do not have access to a digital scanner, we can make arrangements to copy your photos and return them to you. (Note: permission to use such photos remains with you; Oakland ArtTrust does not assume any authority over your images.)

Institutional records
For our documentation collection to be as comprehensive as possible, we would like to know more about publically funded works of art -- artists, commission details, siting, etc. If you are affiliated with the city, museum, or arts/community funding organization and have access to historical documents that can provide accurate details about public art purchases and donations, we can use your assistance.
