Tall textured redwood slabs covered in copper, brings to mind Stonehenge. Located in pleasant sculpture garden behind the APL headquarters.
From SOS: "An abstract piece resembling Stonehenge with two uprights and one cross redwood piece clad in hammered copper. Solstice was one of six large scale pieces made by the artist in 1983 from salvaged redwood. It was acquired in 1986 by Bramalea Pacific and was later copper clad and installed in Oakland City Center. IAS files contain an information sheet on the sculpture from Barclay Simpson Fine Arts Gallery. The artist describes his work as a cross between Stonehenge and Shinto shrines." |
